My whole professional life has been in radio, I’ve been working in the field for over 20 years. I started out as an editor in Czechoslovak Radio in the late 1980s. It was there that I experienced the heady days of the Velvet Revolution in November 1989 and the subsequent period of transformation of the media, from totalitarian to free and democratic. The world opened up to us. Between 1991 and 1997 I worked for the BBC World Service, a professionally rewarding time, which I still draw benefit from. Since 1998 I have been the director of Radio Prague. Although my work today involves lots of paperwork, I still try to keep up with the day to day of radio broadcasting. To me, radio is the most democratic of media, since airwaves travel to the furthest parts of the globe for free and know no borders.
