Presidential elections 2003
On February 28th 2003 the two houses of the Czech Parliament met in the third joint
session, launching the complex process of choosing the next Czech
The President of the Czech Republic is elected every five years by both
houses of the Czech Parliament (the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies).
President Vaclav Havel's second term ended at the beginning of
February 2003. Under the constitution the president is not permitted to
stand for a third term of office.
