Help Asia

The impact of the tragic earthquake that struck South East Asia on 26th December 2004 has been felt worldwide.

On a smaller scale the tragedy affected even the Czech Republic. Not long after the tragedy one Czech fatality was confirmed and there are still several Czechs unaccounted for.

The Czech Republic has also taken part in the huge worldwide humanitarian initiative to help the survivors, the biggest since World War Two. At the beginning of January the Czech government allocated 200 million crowns (around 8 million US dollars), but a great deal of financial support is also coming from the broader public, donating to charities and other humanitarian organizations. The Czech Republic also sent a rescue team to the region.
