I was born in 1968 in Vienna, just days after Warsaw Pact tanks crushed the Prague Spring reform movement. When the Iron Curtain lifted, twenty-one years later, I was studying communications, media and theatre-arts and working as an actor and screenwriter. Inspired by the momentous events in Central and Eastern Europe, I started learning Czech. In August of 2001 I moved to Prague, where I made a living teaching German and then as a free-lance translator. In 2002 I joined Radio Prague’s German language service and in 2006 I became Radio Prague’s editor-in-chief. My main focus of interest is Czech foreign policy, relations with Austria and Germany and the European Union. I like Samuel Beckett, Vilem Flusser, Moravian folk songs, classical music, hip hop, white wine, lemons and Charles Bridge at dusk when seagulls cry overhead. And the best thing about being a radio journalist? Broadcasting stories that capture the listeners’ imagination.
