Cherry twigs on St. Barbara's Day

On St. Barbara's Day (4.12.), people cut cherry twigs and put them in a vase. The twigs are called "barborky" and were originally used for magic rituals. People believe that if flower buds on the twigs open on Christmas Eve, a single girl in the house will get married in a year's time. If the bloom comes earlier, each day before Christmas brings the wedding forth by a month.
